Volunteer Policy

Volunteer support is an essential part of our club. Without the help and support of its members through volunteer hours contributed, The Skating Club of Vail cannot perform its functions.  To that end, members are required to comply with this Volunteer Policy.  This Volunteer Policy must be signed by each skater or skater’s parent/guardian in order to initiate or renew The Skating Club of Vail membership.

The purpose of this policy is to offer our skaters more support and, over time, expand our club’s activities and benefits.  There are many volunteer opportunities that can be fulfilled during club social events, the Vail Invitational, the Winter Ice Show, and our annual banquet, to name a few.  Any additional volunteer opportunities will be sent via e-mail when needed.  Volunteering for Dobson’s Learn-to-Skate and Theater on Ice programs will not count toward volunteer hours as these are functions of the Vail Rec District.

Members are responsible for submitting their volunteer hours upon completion of their volunteer activity.  The hours will need to be signed off by the committee chairperson.  Hours that cannot be verified may not receive credit.   A skater’s family or any approved person designated by the family may perform volunteer hours on the skater’s volunteer log.  However, “gifting” of hours from one skater to another is not allowed.  Hours may not be carried over from one membership year to the next.  All volunteer hours must be completed between July 1st and June 30th of the membership year.

Members may elect to opt-out of volunteering by paying a fee of $500 for full members, $300 for Introductory-2nd year members, and $150 for Introductory-1st year members.

If you have a service that you would like to discuss exchanging for volunteer hours such as Graphic Design, Printing, or rink sponsorship, please discuss this with the board.

Volunteer hours must be completed or the opt-out fee paid by June 30th of the current years’ membership.

If a member has completed at least 80% of their volunteer hours and all SCV events are completed for the membership year the member can opt-out of the last 20% at $10 per hour.

If your skater will be participating in the Vail Invitational and/or the Ice Show we would ask that you are committed to volunteering in some capacity. We recommend that at least 50% of your required hours be used at each as it takes a huge team effort to enable SCV to run these events and to make them viable.

Sign-up information for our events will be sent out by the volunteer coordinator periodically throughout the year.

Members are encouraged to help as much as possible and we appreciate your keeping track of all hours, even after the minimum requirement is met. This ensures proper volunteer staffing from year to year in all of SCV’s events.

The volunteer requirement is subject to change each membership year and will be recorded on the membership application annually.

We are a small club and we rely on 100% honesty and volunteer commitment from our members and their families to make our events and club run successfully. We trust that families will show integrity when completing their requirements for the club.
